Killer Crab

I purchased a small red/purple crab from a lfs recently, I was assured he was reef safe and wouldn't bother my hermits/snails/corals, recently both my Halloween Hermits, which were decently sized, easily the biggest hermits in my tank were found dead with their arms cut off, not eaten bc their arms were near them. I suspect this guy but suddenly he is nowhere to be found, even when I pulled my entire tank apart looking for him rock by rock. He used to live under one rock all the time infallibly, but now hes MIA. Does this sound like an aggressive crab and should I continue destroying my tank finding him?

Maybe hes the one that got killed? haha
Or under the sand molting? Not sure if SW crabs go under the sand to molt, but I know FW crabs do.

I think hes hiding in the one piece of dead I have in my tank that must weigh 45 lbs that I really don't want to move :( I'm pretty sure he's alive, no crab pieces and I'd be stunned if one of my 6 fish (3 chromis, 1 bicolor psuedo, 1 bicolor blenny, 1 six line) had it in them to take on the hermit crabs and him. :(

Crabs are unpredictable... If they don't have nothing to eat.. they will go after hermits.. which are way slower than them..
