Kind of bored with this hobby

OK, I love reefkeeping. Don't get me wrong. But I have nothing left to do. I have no money and I won't be getting any soon, since I am saving up for a new guitar. I still do weekly water changes, clean the glass and feed everything. I love getting up and looking at the tank in the morning. And I love my fish to death. But I don't have the enthusiasm that I did when I started the tank... What should I do?

Sell everything you got to me...really cheap

1) If you can't handle it, get out.
2) If you are looking for attention with a new thread, good job, you got it.
3) If you are looking for symphathy & encouragement, then you did the right thing by posting. But don't let the fishies suffer because of your boredom.

Don't sell it!!
I had a tank for around 5 years - got bored
Sold my tank to my brother for 2,000
Had a lot more then that in it
that was about a year and a half ago
Now I just spent a ton of cash for the new setups
Could not resist-- Went to his house for new years party and seen the tank
----Just sit back and watch it your corals grow!!

It is pretty boring when youre broke.
If that were the case then I would have been out a year ago. I don't have the set up that I would like to have, but I am not even close to bored with what I have. I know what kind of tank I could be running if I had the funds to do so, but I don't have the funds at this time. I would love nothing more than to have a large, extravagant, system that I am positive that I could keep. I simply can't right now. I never get board with my guys at all. I look at my tank and what can be done with it, but if you don't have the funds then you don't have the funds. Believe me, I look at my tank every day and know what it could, and will, be. I just can't do it at this time.

Its not even that I want a larger tank, or fancy ----.
Its just when things mess up and you dont have the funds to fix them. I know most of the time its user error, but when I left my tank with someone else who let it turn to ---- then came back I didnt have the money to even make it look half way nice again. All I can do right now is sit here and hope it doesnt crash. I'm still so bitter about this......................

Maybe there is something in your tank you can trade in at your LFS or with someone for a different look in the tank....

I beg to differ. It can be rather exciting trying to figure out what you can pawn in your apartment just to buy that new frag.

I had my moms debit card on me yesterday when I went to the fish store. I really, really wanted to buy some zoo frags, but she would murder me.
And I wish I had things to trade, or actually knew other Fish Nerds out here.

So this is what it looks like to lose the addiction.
What should you do?? get tougher corals.

I know how you feel. About 2 yrs ago I had a 55 fish only without any live rock or anything and I then got out of the hobby about a yr later cause there was nothing else to do. And I just got back into it not to long ago and found out about corals and reef and reef is almost never ending cause you can just trade corals and what not. so I would Just frag your whole tank and sell the frags and get new frags. suggestion to keeping things interesting... go to every LFS in your area and get 1 cup of their tank water. When you get home add it to your tank. It'll give you something to do and could keep you busy for weeks. LOL
Disclaimer- the above was a joke

I think you should start breeding MO.
I have a reef tank along with a few others. My reef tank is boring. It is where all my visitors at parties look first, but to me, it is boring. I might spend 2 minutes a day looking to be sure a new frag is where it is supposed to be, but once the tank is full, really what else is there?
But, my breeding stock fascinates me every time I go in my basement. I really love the time I get to turn on some tunes, and watch my juvenile fish play. You know how puppies and kittens are fun to watch, but when they get older, we just love 'em? Juvenile fish really seem to play, explore and interacts. We don't get that in a reef tank.
You could use your reef to grow some quick growing frags to sell to make moola for the fun part? Get some zenia! People still buy it!

This sure isn't a cheap hobby, that's for sure. But if you have everything setup, you can just watch the fish and coral grow and enjoy that. Now if you're REALLY bored with the hobby, you should definitely sell everything to someone who can put in the time to properly care for the tank. Don't let your fish and coral suffer and be neglected.

That is one gorgeous guitar, PRS guitars are awesome. Line Six amps are sweet too, have you seen their new tube amps? I’m stuck with a crate amp right now, but maybe once I start fragging corals in the future that Marshall might not be out of reach lol
