Kits or DIY?

I am not sure but when starting a new tank would it be better to get a ready made kit with the tank, filter, air pump and light included; or to get a tank and add the components yourself?
I see these kits and I am not sure that they can provide all of the things I need. In the future I would like to have some anemone or coral, but for now I would be content with just fish and live rock. I am not sure I should buy a tank with a 50 watt bulb included when I will eventually be upgrading to a 96 watt for the inverts and coral I will eventually purchase.
Is it more trouble than it is worth in the long run to buy a ready made kit? Any opinions?

I really have not been able to find any good lfs (and I live in plano) besides *****(not really into their selection of fish) and petsmart(they are okay I guess).

I would suggest talking to a couple of lfs in the area and see what they offer, also it depends on your experience. I bought a 50 gal tank the first time mostly a kit. I eventually sold it as I felt it was a pain to take care of. I now have a 20 gal that I did most of the work on myself, like drill the holes in the glass, fabricated the stand and the sump as well as purchasing all the other odds and ends. It also depends on how patient you want to be. I hope this helps a little. If you do decide on a kit, try posting the specs on this or another thread and get everyones opinion.

Hey, I am originally from NY but lived the last 4 years in Dallas, before moving here to IL. Two good stores are Dallas North aquarium in or near Plano just off the toll way. The other is by White Rock Lake on Gaston or Garland (?) Ave, but the name slips my mind at the moment. I will post again if I can remember it.
Sorry did not mean to swipe your post, just trying to help.
