kole tang

i plan on purchasing a kole tang for my reef aquarium. when i bring him home & qt him should i go ahead & just start an ich treatment. about a month ago i purchased a kole tang & he died of ich & wiped out my 2 clowns (this was before i set up a qt tank)

dak, if you want to do hyposalinity, it would be fine, but copper definately not. Copper should only be used when absolutely necessary.
How big is your tank?

thank you, i found this site thru jeeves & it is fab. my main tank is 72g bow front reef tank. my qt tank is 10g i'm currently treating my maroon clown w/Quick Cure containing formalin & malachite green. i found it very effective in my 55g freshwater tank. what is hyposalinity? and can i use same treatment for kole tang that may eventually become a resident?

I have a 72 bow reef as well. Why are you treating the clownfish?
Hyposalinity is an ich treatment. Check out the FAQ Thread. The procedure is detailed there in 2 places.

beth, in my 1st post i mentioned ich outbreak in main display. i now have a qt tank set up but since setting it up & doing further research i don't think its big enough to qt the rest of my fish. i have 5 1/2" blue green chromis, 1 6-line wrasse about an 1" & 2 damsels also about an 1". my clown seems to be responding to current treatment & showing no signs of any difficulty. my main display is being treated with reef safe ich treatment recommended by lfs it is a 15 day treatment & last treatment will be 2morrow, i am already prepared to repeat cycle when i do another water change which is scheduled for thurs. i know the only success i may have however is to remove all fish ( i wish i found this forum much sooner) to a qt tank to treat there & leave them there long enough to hopefully end life cycle of ich in main display. my qt tank is only 10g.

Why don't you set up a large rubbermaid for a QT. Do you have reef, or FOWLR?

display is reef. can i just move this existing filter system on 10g to a rubbermaid?

Yes, and use water from the display to fill the rubbermaid. A several cups of sand from your display to seed the rubbermaid QT.
Go to the local hardware store and pick an eggrate to go on top to prevent jumping. You can use a regular room lamp over the tank to illuminate the rubbermaid to check on the fish. If you have an extra PH, throw that in as well.
