I recieved my pendant a month ago 175w 14k euro( on my third bulb in a month) and beside bulb failure I was kind of dissapointed with the lack of shimmer in the tank.
Is because the pendant places the bulb in a vertical position?
pendant is around 10 to 11 inches from the water.
Do I need tons of turbulence at the surface. If so, how much and specific makes and models?
Currently flow from the head at the surface is around 200 gph.
Tank is 24x24x12 30 gal.
Thanks for your help.

To get really good ripples of light, you need really good ripples on the surface of the water. At first when I read that the pendant was 11 inches above the tank,I was thinking that is a problem.TOO HIGH,MH only lights up a two square foot area and your loosing half of that before the light even hits the tank. But with a small tank like that,I'm sure heat is a problem. I would still try to get it a little closer though....

Rabid, if you want a laugh search this site with the words "disco ball". It relates to your question but I can't guarantee it will be helpful.
