i put algae sheets and he wont eat them he just picks at my rocks. will the algae sheets increase my nitrate?

Mine doesn't eat algae sheets either. Just picks at the rocks, powerheads and glass. But he's fat so I guess he's finding good stuff to eat.

They are natural grazers, and should be in a 55 gal. minimum.

Right, but they list the minimum tank size for the juvenile fish that they ship. The sizes listed are not the minimum for the fish to thrive and, in this case, be able to find natural food.

That is one thing that people don't realize.
 
I had a full grown adult male in a 26g and he has been fine for over two years now. Really you just need to make sure that they have ample algal growth to graze on. Brad, have you ever tried feeding him mysis or blood worms? Just a suggestion.

I put one in my 150 to battle my hair aglae growth he was 2 inches long when I put him in 3 months ago he is now 3 inches and so fat he can not even sit on his fins he rolls on his BELLY.

mine eats everything and anything...if it floats he will test it. Try flakes, mine eats it and also leaves looks of kisses on the glass.

Thought that this forum was for agressive fish :)~ My Red Lips blenny nips my hand when I have it in the tank. Darn thing is supposed to be a grazer too! lol...

if there is plenty of algae growth and the fish isn't skinny, than i wouldn't add seaweed. yes it can increase nitrates if you let it rot. don't leave the stuff in the clip for more than half a day.
