I have a quiet one 4000 running on a closed loop setup...one outlet in each corner and a quiet one 3000 as a return from my 10 gal sump.
Will a spiny urchin help?

:notsure:
I did notice a lot of growth after I added the heater (Never used one in the summer just got a new one a few months ago)
Anything else??
What temp should I keep the tank??

Try cutting back on how long you have the lights on, cut back on your feeding, and try to get what you can by doing it yourself.

Lights are on a timer 10hrs a day, I feed every day or every other day depending on when I work.
Thinking about setting up a fuge but I cant find any stores with cheato around where I live.
Would a fuge help for hair algea??

sure. The fuge would give you something to compete with to help reduce nitrate and phosphate. I know you don't have any readings for either but that is because the hair algea is using it so you sorta get a false reading.

One other thing maybe. It kind of looks like your flow is only in the upper portion of the tank. No powerheads in mid to lower portion where the rocks are?? Just a thought.

ps - I know you listed the pumps but I'm not familiar with them - what is your total gph?

Get turbo snails they will eat them I had hair algae and my turbo mow them down. Lawnmower will only eat the short hair algae once they get long most won't touch it. Turbo snails and sea hair are the only onces that I know of will eat them.

Quiet one 4000....1017 gph a 0 feet. Sits on a shelf behind the tank about 1ft below waterline.
Quiet one 3000...780gph at 0 feet. In the sump about 4 ft below waterline.
I would guess the 4000 is about 850-900gph and the 3000 is about 550-600 gph
Is this enough??

I would have atleast 10 turbos in there. Personally, I would probably panick and put in 20 and then move them to other tanks and fuges when there mission is done.

I agree about the lights. I had an algae problem (with lights on a timer). I cut it back by a couple of hours and it worked wonders. Good luck.

how about a couple pygmy sea hares to go with those mexican turbos. A friend of mine has a few on a popular auction site?

I think the temp. mentioned earlier was a good call and..
By your estimate you have 18.6x turnover on flow but you may be a little optimistic about the flow in the closed loop system - there are a lot of 90 degree turns there.
and it still seems only directed in the upper portion of tank.
(IMHO)

I think that the quiet ones do pretty good, cant tell from the pics but they blow my fish, sand and algea all over the place. Already cut the temp down to about 78, going to cut back lights to 9hrs a day.
Was thinking about doing a 20% watercange and scrubbing all the rocks to get hair off...need to change things around anyway not happy with the way it looks.
Has anyone ever taken all the rocks out scrubbed them and put them them back in.....will it kill any of the good "stuff"???
