I was speaking with my LFS owner about me moving this weekend. Yes, I gotta move that damn tank, I dreed it! 
I told him that I presently have about a 2 in sand bed and that while my tank is down, I want to add about another 2-3 inches. My concern was the "recycling" of the tank due to the new subtrate. He said there should be no recycle that to remove the 1st layer of sand, lay my new sand down, then the 1st layer back on top. What do you guys think about this? What's up with the 1st layer? Also, do you think my tank will cycle again with the new subtrate?
Just getting more opinions before I start breaking the tank down tomorrow morning......
