this is one of the things i look at when i am older or have a job.
does anyone know where youo can actually find leafy seadragons online to buy?
and anyone know any care websites for seadragons?
want to look into prices for FUTURE references.

a have a tattoo of one on my arm!
i dont think they can be kept in home aquaria. they have a great permanent exhibit of them at the chattanooga aquarium though.

All I know is that they are extremely delicate and there was some sort of top 10 most expensive fish this public aquarium owned, and the seadragon was #1.

Out of respect to the owner and operator of this site, please do not request links to external stores, etc. Thanks

well if you think about it this site don't have leafy seadragons so if someone posted a link for me to see a price there not loosing any business at all. plus i only buy from local LFS's anyway =P
someitmes people need to remember rules btu also add sence to the equation. for example, though external links are usually bad in this situation, there would be no business lost.
..i used to mod a lot of forums, so is why i posted that.

it probably wouldnt be a problem if the linked site sold ONLY sea dragons, but if they sell ANYTHING SWF also sells then it would be a competitor.

here i just found this it was written a while ago
i dont mean to rain on your parade though
A 1996 assessment by the Australian government's Department of Environmental Heritage indicates "It [the Leafy Sea Dragon] is now completely protected in South Australia because demand for aquarium specimens threatened the species with extinction." Currently the specific law which protects them is called the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999.
and since they are only found in australia i guess that means
no leafy sea dragons

WAIT theres hope
i just found that they are expensive
but can be bought by captive breeders as long as the dragons were caught before the conservation law went into effect
this is from wikipedia so i dont know if i should trust it though

well i dont know if this helps
i guess i just posted 3 times and made no progress

Leafy Seadragon.

Seadragon

Very beautiful creatures but extremely delicate. I think for Public Aquariums only due to the care that is needed for these wonderful guys. The tanks they are in approximately 150-200 gallon vertical columns with low - medium flow. Low lighting, no other creatures or sand, and long strands of seaweed. There were only 3-4 dragons in each column.

Woah!!! Those are AMAZINGLY cool!!! I don't know if you're allowed to say this or not, but creatures like these, and the delight they bring us make me thankful for a wonderful creator.

Yep, just saw those dragons myself not too long ago as well. I would never venture to imagine that I could keep such delicate creatures to the life span that they deserve. Absolutely breath taking!!

10 years ago i couldn't have kept seahorses as pets. i won't be surprised if any of us have these as pets in 20 years or so.
EDIT: by this i mean that we are developing new ways to keep these animals healthy

Interesting thread,
funny last yr on a japanese website, there were a few leafy seadragon babies for sale. they were captive bred offspring. IIRC they were ~5grand USD.
Also remember these are temperate water fish so they require cold water, and they only eat live shrimp.
I was speaking to a curator of a public aquarium a few years back, and she mentioned that it cost more than her yearly salary to pay for the live shrimp their leafy exhibit ate.
gotta have deep pockets for these fish
