If your setting up a new tank and dont want to plumb w/PVC pipe and opt for the much easier to use clear vinyl. Make sure you cover it from all available light, otherwise it will have algea growing in it within 3 weeks. The options are pretty simple , cover the pipe or be ready to remove and replace or clean every other month which is sure to be a real pain.
Just a tip for any of U wanting to use clear vinyl. I missed this part when I set up my new tank.

i used black vinyl on my chiller looks nice and you dont see any algae.

I've used the clear viynle hose. I don't have a problem, and my sump light is on 24/7.

If you aren't good at cleaning it will it cause nitrates or any other type of spike? The one they gave me with my overflow box runs down to my sump to a powerhead so that if the power goes out it will start syphoning right away. It has some build up in it.
