well the current lighting sucks! I ordered some 4x96 PC's and I bought this leather the day before they arrived, when they got here the bulbs were broke, so I had to send them back..........now I'm waiting on new bulbs.
mine does that every now and then...then a few days later it pops back up...i think it's something cyclic in how they function. plus, if you got it recently it may be shedding and it'll poof back up. personally i'd leave it alone and just watch it for at least another week before you get worried...
ps,...i'd also be careful with dosing iodine and strontium/molybednum...you can od the tank.

Actually most soft corals are pretty forgiving even of low light. Looks like you have a colt. Could be one of several things IMO. The most obvious is your lighting. You stated you dose Iodine, Strontium & Molybdenum which in and of itself might not be bad but you could possibly overdosing. How much and how often are you dosing these supplements? What are your calcium levels? Since we know your lighting is not what it could be ruling out everything else seems logical. I suggest weekly water changes (10%) without dosing anything at all. This will ensure your water quality is ok.
The most common mistake I used to make is assuming my water quality was adequate just because I followed the dosing instructions on the supplement bottle. Not suggesting you are overdosing but it is easy to do in this hobby. As someone else mentioned soft corals often "shed". This is another good possibility. Good luck, Ags
ok, I ordered new bulbs..........1, 10K daylight, and 1, atenic......I put them in yesterday............hopefully the leather will recover, it's looking pretty bad........
ok, I'm pretty sure the Leather is a gonner..........it fell off of the rock it was attached to...........I think the lights, and the water change were to late, is it poisonous? should I get it out of the tank as soon as possible? or would it be a good meal for my hermits?..........but on the otherhand, my zoos (or atleast I think they are zoos) are starting to come back around.
if you know for a fact it is gone pull it out of the tank. It will polute your water quality. Post a picture just to make sure. I just recently took a toadstool off a buddies hands to see if I could nurse it back to health. In two weeks the bad parts have "healed" over and it is showing signs of growth.
