Leather Help PWEEZ

Haven't posted in a while, so I first want to say hello to everyone! I'm been extremely busy (just got engaged and starting a computer service business) lately and haven't had a whole lot of time for anything. Don't worry, the fish tank hasn't suffered, i still do the general maintenance on it.
I've got a disease question on a Devil Hand Leather. My leather has developed little (half a dime size) white scares on two of its fingers. I can only see two so far, and the leather seems uneffected. It still blooms and is bigger than ever.
What is this white scare tissue? It seems to 'eat' through the skin because there are indentations where the white scares are, as if they are being eaten. It seems to be getting progressively worse (very very slowly). This has been going on for a few months (maybe 3 or 4) and they were extremely small spots, so i brushed it off as my hermits picking at it. Well no more hermits are in the tank and more spots are beginning to appear. I'm sure it is a disease or fungis, but what? I'm tempted to cut off the effected areas in hopes of it not spreading to other parts of the hand and killing it entirely.
I've searched the forum and found three or four threads with similar problems, but no one answered their posts.
Any help would be appreciated!
