Leather is ripping

I have a leather but not sure what kind. Looks like the devils hand. The sucker is ripping and i figure that it will be at the bottom of the tank tomorrow. Just wondering if he will survive? Wanted to take a pic, but the batteries on camera are dead. Will take a pic tomorrow to show u.

My finger leather looks like it is ripping pieces off. They drop after a few days a start growing other little leathers. I get about one a week now that is is large enough. The original area that ripped will branch
