Thats plain dumb. Show me an ocean that has no night! Wants better growth? Learn to take care of them correctly they will flurish. Leave on 24/7 Gheessh

never heard of that. are u sure he wasn't talking about his refugium? a lot of people leave it on 24/7 in there to keep various algaes from going sexual

IMO that's a bad idea... life needs a night and day... not to mention the algae growth potential. I do run my refuge lighting 24/7 though.

Nope the best way is to try and mimic the natural sea/ocean it came from. all have close to the same amount of day and night and if you notice most all reefs are close to the equator or at least inbetween the tropics. all the way around the world. Thats why MH come into play you need 4 to 6 hours a day of extreme lighting for all corals unless they are deepwater. ( the sun is closest to the equator and MH is the only real way to mimic it, or at least get close). You also need that morning time(atinics) and eveing time (atinics) and you don't need this but the moonlights just finish off the all natural look and has been said to help spawing or growth in corals. This make the corals feel at home. Just tell that guy to use some comman sense and read a book they probably have on the shelves at the lfs.

I don't think anyone was thinking you were doing it... nor making any statements toward you personally... just responding to the question.
If you see the guy again let him know that he's going to cause more problems and stress than anything beneficial. If he's none responsive to your concern, then he'll learn the hard way.

How much do moon lights cost. I still don't have my tank and was thinking about them because my tank is going in my room so I can view my fish at night.

Off the subject here, but moonlights are not that expensive. Some people may disagree, but moonlights do little for the tank, they are for the AWE factor for us IMO.
