have set up the following plan for an LED fixture
see drawings below
fixture is created for a tank 23" deep 120" long and 41" wide
it exists of 6 total panels existing of
on each panel
colored light yellow on the drawing
24 X Led Hi-power 3W
Lum flux 160-180Lm
10-12K
60° angle
colored blue
24 X Led Hi-power 3W blue
25-30Lm
460-465Nm
60°angle
colored dark yellow
6 X Led Hi-power 10W
650-800Lm
20-25K
120°angle
the question now is would the fixture be a light overkill?
better to use 1W LED and the 10w as 3W?
or leave the 3W but get rid of the 10W LED's??

please advise??

Doesn't seem overkill breaking it up into separate units......Not totally sure on your color choices of leds....I haven't seen yellow used...Any reason or technical reason why to use yellow? I would stay with the 3w high quality leds such as Cree for your build.... What spacing are you considering between your leds? Height mounted above the tank?

I think your spacing is overkill for the tank....You could easily go 2" spacing between leds.....I would still use 3w leds over the 1w leds.

Wow that does seem to be alot of light. Recommend the dimmable drivers on each color. That way you can just tune the intensity down to acclimate as well as play with the color temp.

agree with all of the above.
I have seen some red's used on a dimmer to make your red ornage and yellows pop a bit but never seen a yellow

I just think they are packed to close.....I thought I seen a thread done with green?? Can't remember at times cause I browse so many threads, but depending on certain things how their wired, that's a lot of drivers, and Corey that is were those other power supplies come into play at. I think safety wise they'd still have to be broken into banks of 12 and yes dimmable all the way.

the LEDs are not yellow I just wrote yellow to mark the specific LEDs on the drawing
the 3W LEDs used are white 12000K
the 10W LEDs used are white 20000K
was thinking of not using the 10W LED lines as that might be too much for the depth of my tank
So will only use 3W LEDs or should I switch to 1W setup?
What would be the best LEDs to use?

Here's 1 of many threads on led builds....This is probably 1 of my favorites....a lot of tech info here, but a lot of different people working and I'm sure you might find a lot of it useful.

ok after some reading and taking you guys advise I updated the fixture.
Changed from 6 panels to 3 and added T5 bulbs to the fixture
also will work with CREE XP-G cool whites and XP-E royal blues only.
again the DT it is meant for is 23" deep 120" long and 41" wide
Now would the fixture be ok or still over kill or did I tune back too much?

Not following.....So basically all you did was change your plans from 6 panels to 3 panels with 54 LEDs on each panel still?
