LED lighting and corals?

Earlier I was intrested in getting a anemone but I think I want to go for corals that you dont have to feed and only need light to survive. I would like to upgrade my lighting for this particular reason but at the same time I dont want to make my electric bill go sky high. So I had a thought. LED lighting. I have a 75 GAL so I would be getting the 48"

I had looked at those lights too....I wa also told they would not be sufficient for corals....you need at least 3watt leds from what I have been told

while the 3w LED's are awesome there are a few manufacturers out there getting good results with lots of 1w bulbs.
the aquailluminations and the ecoexotic are the front runners of the manufactured LED's and I beleive both of them use 1w LED's
DIY 3-5w LEd's are the way to go though.

I've been testing Marineland's new "Reef Ready" LED fixtures on one of my tanks. I must say that I have been really impressed so far. They are far superior to the double brights and I saw immediate improvement in my corals when I made the switch. I think we are selling them now, although I think they are still in limited availability.

I have just been reading about them but I hear they give off a yellowish color. I would believe you more if you didnt work for SWF.com, no offense

LOL Wayner you don't get business by selling garbage and giving bad advice.....
The service here has always been excellent, and when I have had to call to talk to someone, I have gotten excellent advice...IMO the importance of customer service is ranked at the top of the list for me, and has a lot to do with where I will do business

I will second saltwaterfish.com My LFS got one in and nearly blinded himself and he showed it to us over one of his frag tanks and it looked really good.

Aquailluminations uses 3W LEDs, and most other manufacturers that use 1W LEDs use a rediculous number of them and still their PAR is still vastly less than the higher-powered fixtures. The Marineland fixtures use a small number of low-powered LEDs.
If you want to go LED and don't want to break the bank, DIYing is the way to go.

i recently bought the evolution leds....i have a predominantly sps tank....puts out higher par than a metal ahlide without the heat......also has a lot more shimmer than halide.....highly recommend this light
