Anyone familiar with the hommade led fixtures made from vinyl gutter and supernight led lights and are they suitable for saltwater applications

Depends. If they're high enough above the water line then they should be fine.

I built some a few years back using those flexible strip lights but I had them about 4" above the surface and they only last about 2 years due to the corrosion.

Some of those flexible strip lights are water proof and some are water resistant. Not sure which you have. But would recommend keeping them higher than 4" above the surface.

Just depends on what your goal is. They don't really work for coral but are fine for fish tanks.

I had the same rubber coated ones. They are made to be cut to size. One of my issues was salt creep eventually caused them to corrode at the end that was cut. I probably should have sealed it better.

But after about two year the rubber starts getting discolored and kind of yellowish. I've had friends that used them on their cars and had similar experiences. 2-3 years seems to be the average lifespan with those types of leds.
