Right now ive got 2x250w HQI MH on my tank right now, but ive been looking into some of these LED stuff cause i remember a while ago when they came out everyone seemed to think they were going to be good. Well, ive started looking for some of them now and was thinking how good they really are. Im not looking into the prepared fixtures that cost an arm and a leg, but online i saw these mats of about 100 LEDs for about $150 which only ran on about 50watts, and said they could cover up to a 4sq ft area. So i was thinking 2 of these would cover my tank with a fraction of the cost to light it now. Or are the LEDs in the Solaris fixture special

I actually just found another LED lighting contraption on ----, that is 4'x1.5". These go for $40 and have 276LEDs which run on 15watts and produce 1000 lumens. So i can see buying like 4 of these and butting them up against each other and it would still only be 6" wide and span the whole tank, I just dont know how many lumens the MH produce that i have now, and i dont know what the penetration power of LEDs are. Any one familiar?

As of now LEDs in general are not to the point where they could be used for reefs. I think you'd be happier keeping that halides.
