What I have been reading is Cree leds are more efficient then most others so from an energy conservation point Cree win most of the time. You still need to consider how they will be used and the spectrum of light that they produce so mix and mach to get the best result for the application. Orphek DIF 100/50 XP Multi-Chip Multi-Type Pendants look like the new thing!!! There are people doing cool things with these type of Multi-Chips, and when the chip the Orphek DIF 100/50 XP come to the market so the DIY crowd can play with them I see some trick kits happening.

There's a decent build thread already over on RC with the multi chip. That thread is a true; extreme DIY deal.....Corey and I had looked at multi chip a while back, but the cost was outrageous for just 1 guy to pursue....

Yep, I saw that thread and I pulled an all nighter reading the hole thing. What has me inspired is the Orphek DIF 100/50 XP chips are engineered to cover the light spectrum most people agree are need for corals with little wasted on other frequencies.

Bridgelux aren't bad chips. And they do make some that rival many of the popular cree's. Typically the bridglux chips being marketed to hobbyists aren't as powerful but their higher K white leds do tend cover a little more range of the color spectrum than cree cool whites. And they do make more powerfull ones. Many people are having good success with them. Cree wins in efficiency every time though.
