length or height does it matter?

ok considering getting a larger tank my intuition says a longer tank would be better than a taller tank want a 150 gal. set-up i want the most fish possible without overloading of course any and all input greatly appreciated

Well for the light yes the depth of the tank would matter rember that the light will difuse through out the water the deeper the tank the less good light it gets. the length will only affect the teritorial fish and give them nmore room from the other fish and cause less issues.

Also longer tanks are better for fish that are active swimmers. I would look for a 6 footer if you have the room.
I think the only reason to get a shorter tank is if you absoultely do not have the wall space for a longer one.

Definitely longer is better. You do not want a very tall tank. It limits swimming space and light on the bottom. A long tank allows the fish a lot of swimming room, there is more oxygen, and since it is longer, it will be shorter and you will have more depth to your light.
