Lesson Learned

After reading tons of posts and other research I thought I would try some very small hermits in my aggressive tank to help with clean up chores. Theory being they are so small that they'll hide in their shell before they can be picked off. Picked up 10 for $10 so no big investment.
Well after aclimating added the hermits to the tank. 2 minutes later. All eaten. My picasso picked each hermit up, sucked the crab out and spit out the shell like he was eating sunflower seeds.
The question keeps coming up, what inverts safe with triggers?
I think the answer with mine in NONE.
Hey if we don't learn something each day, we've wasted it, right?

fshub: You're too funny. I guess I'll just build my scrubbing muscles. I wasn't thinking so much the glass as I was getting something to pick up the left overs. You know how messy those triggers can be.
Oh well, I feel bad for the hermits but I guess the fish had a nutritious meal.

if you need to work on the glass, I use a fresh, new and unused razor blade(in acrylic i may not, but i onlyhave glass), works good, then i discard the blade, never to be used in a tank again.
Works good and is cheap, takes the algae right off.
Not too sure, but maybe urchins, I do nto like them, b/c thye have been known to eat wires too, while chewing the algae off of it. and they are like bull dozers going between rocks, so if you do get them, make sure the rock is affixed somehow.

You think an urchin can survive with a picasso, valentini and an SFE?
That would be something to try I guess.
I do that razor blade thing too. I actually took some old pvc and bends and created a scraper. I just use those cheap platic razor blade holders. Works great. Had to play with the angles to get it working just right. Coralline doesn't have a chance.

I can relate. I am a HUGE puffer fan (my reason for getting into SW!!), but at the same time puffers are well known for eating inverts too.
I don't mind doing some gravel/substrate vacuuming but at the same time I am a little jeaous when my friend tells me how cool his cleaner shrip/lawn mower blenny is.
Nah.... puffers are very cool!!! :)

I gained a new respect for triggers the first time I want deep sea fishing. You have to drop that bait so fast to get it though the trigger fish (or pack wolves we called em) layer to the bottom. It was funny bc you could tell when you were going through it. It's amazing if you really think how violent the ocean is.:D

I must have a sissy Huma Huma as so far he hasn't bothered any of my hermits but loves my LR. He doesn't seem to bother any of my fish either. I have 2 fire gobies that I can not catch to trade in so they are on their own. I thought for sure the lion or the huma would get them and they are still there and so are my hermits. I guess it all depends on the triggers.
