I have owned a whole lot of tanks and has realized that the actual water volume of most tanks are way off of the advertized size. Even if you measure the outside of the glass it still is usually less. I would like to see how much our tanks actually hold. So let's all grab a tape measure, measure the inside of the glass and figure it out and then post the results.
L X W X H divided by 231
My 125 could hold 124.5 gallons if I filled it to the rim

alright well i thought mine was a 100g but i guess not
the actualy internal volume of the aquarium is
59"L x 15"W x 24"H = 21240/231 makes it a 92g tank!
and this whole time ive been putting supplements in it as though it was a 100g tank. and plus i have like 100lbs of live rock so i probably only have like 75g of water in the tank! thats crazy i never figured out that before.
if you take the outside measurements then it is a 100g but thats not how it really is!

60" x 20" x 20" = 24000/231 = 103.896
To me thats a 100 gal display.....or close enough for wizardry reefkeeping at least.
 
yea i have a 54 corner with a bow front. how might you figure that one out??
If I remember right the 54 corner is just 1/4 of a circle. So by figuring the total volume of a cylinder and dividing by 4 we should be able to get close.
V=(pi*r2)h (volume equals PI times the radius squared times the height) so
V=(3.1415927*729)*22
.............(*note 729 is 27*27 radius squared)
V=50384.8637226
Now to find gallons
50384.8637226/231 = 218.11629317
divide by 4 to find volume of the corner tank
218.11629317/4 = 54.52907329 gallons

Measure and "calc" as a rectangle and then "subtract" the area of the triangles...:yes:

Since a regular hexagon is just six equilateral triangles find the area of one, multiply by 6 then multiply by the total height of the tank to find volume...divide by 231 to get gallons
I have a round tank. How would you measure that? I was told it is a 35, but not sure.
Just as above...a round tank is just a cylinder
(V=(pi*r2)h)/231 = gallons
