OK everyone...
please note....
THAT is a healthy blue Linckia...see how "fat" and cylindrical the arms are? No sign of thinning and "hollowing" out. I don't see many in the hobby that good

I have had a chocolate chip star, and a sand sifting star, and I had to give them back to the lfs because they both ate my xenia. I did not feed either of them, is this why they ate the coral?
I'm interested in a Blue Linka, but I just cant trust a star, any reassurence?
Here is a pic and video of them:

CC stars are not reef safe, they will eat coral. SS stars eat all the beneficial infauna from your sandbed. If you have to ask, you are not ready to attempt a blue linckia. No offense.

None taken. How is yours with your coral? Fine i'd assume. They eat algae and such right? I'm going to research them some more. I hear they are rather hard to keep.

They are reef safe with corals & inverts. One of the problems with them is we are not sure exactly what they eat. I suspect them to be more of an omnivore, detrivore. Mine eats the eggs off the glass that my clown pair spawns every few weeks when they reach a certain maturity. Some of the reasons they need a stable, mature, large system with plenty of LR and tank inhabitants that breed like shrimp & fish. The key is finding a healthy specimen that has been handled properly all the way back to when they were taken. Each person must drip acclimate them for 4+ hours, or they suffer from osmotic shock which shows up as deteriorating{melt}, and death, several weeks later. Thank you for the very nice compliment Ophiura.Sorry to hear of your PC troubles, the same happened to me not long ago.
Great pics, keep them coming!

Thank you very much for the information! I dont think my tank is established enough for a Blue Linka Star. Its 1 and a half years old with about 70 lbs and a large piece of dead coral that is covered in coralline aglae. I do not have anything that spawns though. I have a pair of clowns that have been hosting an anemone for about 6 months now. Maybe they will start spwning soon. Anyways to make them?
Do you think I have enough rock for one? Dont worry, the Tangs are gone.

i have had a cc star for about 7 months and it is doing fine and just yesterday since it was thanksgiving i gvve him and his tank mates a nice jucie shrimp and they loved it.lol hope everyone had a happy thanksgiving.

THe tank, unfortunately, will never be "mature enough" for a blue Linckia. There just is no where near the amount of rock needed.
Promisetbg - fascinating info on the clown eggs. I had not heard that before! Thanks!
