hey Nanokid, havnt heard you in a long time. What happend to your nano tank? Did you give it away and get the 36gallon? Before you buy seahorses from your LFS, ask them to feed it frozen mysis to see if it eats. If they say anything like "oh we already fed it" or "it only eats live food" then I'd be worried. Its hard to get seahorses to eat, specially if they are wild caught. You should buy that are captive bread. Now unless you got the money and time to feed these beautiful creatures live food then go for it. If you want a good place to buy seahorses that are captive bred as well as ones that eat FROZEN MYSIS, go check out seahorsesdotcom! Good luck!

Pretty good deal i got there but i also kept the wall cleaner and the thermometer and the temp reader to see i can see were my temp at. Here is my daughters seahorse tank and I will never do it again. Seahorses need to be fed atleast 2 times a day with mysis. Brine do nothing and will not keep your SH's alive. As some one said, You must see them eat before you by them! I have had one set of babies but the perc munched them all before I could get many netted. None survived. Seahordes are a lot of work. Aside from that, they are way prone to disease. Before you buy them (always buy more than one as they are very communical), you need to get your meds ready. I have been through parasites, tail rott and gas bubble disease. All require meds that are hard to find. Vacation require some one to come every day.
My daughter loves them but when they go they will not be replaced! These two kudas are one year old with me and probably 2 years old in total. They are not long meant!

Well I did have a seahorse. I fed mine frozen food, didnt have to feed him live food. I believe you have to keep live mysis in a refugim to keep them alive. You should ask about that from other fellow hobbiests because Im not too sure since I dont have a refuigm. You got $500bucks huh? Awesome.Hoping to see some pictures if you do buy a seahorse or two.

I don't think seahorses are that hard at all. My reef requires more maintenance than my seahorses. My seahorses are captive bred and eat frozen mysis twice a day.
Research, research, research!

I've never hatched brine so I can't help you with that one. Sorry. Do you have plenty of things for the horse to hitch on? Did you see it eat before you bought it?

lol ya. I asked the guy to feed all 4 of them that were in there and he said ya. So he went to go some live brine and i have never seen a seahorse eat. it was cool they all 4 went hunting and ate alot and ya i got alot of stuff for hime to have a happy home. I only bought 1 for 20 doll. I made them give me a discount.

If you have them long enough, you will have to fight disease. Gas bubble is brutal as you have to "bleed" the bubble out by hand and then treat with meds. Not lancing them of course. ALso feeding them twice a day is hard on most people.

Water flow should be horizonal and usually at the top. Moderate to light flow is best. You will find that they will hang in dead zones. For feeding mysis, I have some stainless steel prongs. These prongs are the mack daddy. Got them from my neighbor the nurse. They are used for heart surgery and are 14 inches long and can pick up a single brine shrimp. My bristle worms hate them! It is mandatory that you see the LFS feed the seahorses mysis before you buy them.

what if it circles the tank but its not alot of pressure because he swims everywhere right now and sometimes he well hook his tail onto his plants and on his feather duster?

I agree on the feeding, it is a pain to feed twice a day.

Nope, they prefer very low flow.

Exactly. Frozen brine has no nutritional value.

Mine were already trained to eat frozen when I got them. IDK how you make the conversion.
