I currently own a 65 inch Mitsubishi Diamond Series Projector. It was the top TV about 6 or 7 years ago. Its full 1080i not p but its has a great picture.
The main issue is the input and outpust are outdated. I went to add a hdmi cable for XBOX and it has all the wrong stuff.
I have been out of the game for so long that all this new stuff keeps coming out its like another language.
Im not going smaller so its 65 or nothing. Whats out there for the money?

I think LCD is the up and coming king of the hill but I'd maybe wait until they get the LED version in that size.

I bought a LCOS 52" TV during the TV battles wars and it got phased out quickly by the LCDs and Plasmas. Now the LEDs are coming but the LCDs in my opinion are still the king. I now have a 52" Samsung LCD and I am very happy. The LCOS lamps kept going out so I had to get rid of it.

If you are going 65" go plasma. I love my Samsung 550 series. They make a 65" at a reasonable price. Do they make LCD and LED that big?

I have a 47” plasma in my livingroom..the difference from LCD is that on a plasma, no matter where you are in the room you have a perfect picture. LCDs are like the computer screens, at another angle you can't see it at all. I have LCD in my bedroom. LCD is the up and coming king because it is so much cheaper.
IMO...Plasma costs more but it is worth it.

LCD LEDs are great if you got the dough to pitch over for one b/c you will want a high quality one. Don't be like my friend that bought a "cheap" one for $1,500, as it looks like crap. His regular LCD looks better.
As a general rule on the others, for under 42" go with an LCD, 42"-47" either one, larger than 47" go with a plasma. I personally prefer plasmas as the black level is much better. Also, when sitting right next to an LCD, I think the overall picture on a plasma is better, but again just my opinion. For your xbox you will want a fast processor. 120Hz or higher.

The V10 series Panasonic plasmas are really nice. I believe CNET rated them higher than the Pioneer elite.

How big is the room the TV's in, and what's the viewing length (from roughly where your eyes are, to the front of the TV screen)?
65"+ TVs are for massive rooms, usually basements where viewing distances are often over 20 feet. Too close to a big TV and the quality isn't that great, because well, there are basically the same amount of pixels ina 65" 1080p, as there are in a 42" 1080p. They are just stretched to the larger screen.
My favorite moderately priced TV right now is the lastest Vizio, the 55" 552VXT, TruLED. If budget isn't an issue, I would call several Best Buy and try to locate a 60" Pioneer Kuro. A bit oldschool, but what many still consider the best TV ever made.
If the room is really that big though, you might consider going with a projector.

I still don't get how an LED tv can claim such fast refresh times, since it take a few miliseconds for them to de-energize.

i just bought a 55" samsung series 7 TOC LCD. I did a lot of research before buying mine. To be completely honest, Pioneer and Bang & Olufsen are the best tvs made, but they are crazy expensive. I payed $2800 for mine and I couldnt be happier. its 120hz 100k:1 contrast ratio, tons of inputs...
this would be my recommendation..
