Lets talk light

I have read a lot about light and many different ideas/opinions. So, a 40gl tank with 40lbs of dry rock 10lbs of live rock 40lbs live sand 6 fish and one coral. what kind of light is recommended and what lengths of time?

Honestly a lot of it depends on what kind of corals you are getting as they are the biggest factor with lighting. Fish aren't as picky on their lighting as the corals are. Some corals will be fine with just about any basic LED lighting and others require some more higher end/specialized varieties.
