Should Ilisten to people here more or at my LFS? Has anyone ever found a good deal online for a a glass tank without lights and filters built in to it?

Chris,
There are some really knowledgeable people here. I am not sure of the knowledge of the people at you LFS there business is to make money selling their product/livestock. What ever you hear or read, keep researching it until you feel comfortable with the answers. Many people use different approaches for their tanks, but for the most part the info is good. If you have a different opinion, post it, and I am sure someone will explain what is wrong or confirm your thoughts. This is a good place to learn, and contribute.
As far as the tank goes, shipping costs would more than likely be high if you found one, but I have never looked for one. Most of the stores I visit have better "final prices".

Kelly nailed it! People on this board are here to help you and aren't in it for the money. Alot of times i used to find my LFS tring to sell me somthing i don't need or they give me false info on products, fish and coral needs just to make a buck. They aern't all bad, just be careful so you don't end up blowing alot of cash on uneeded equiptment or livestock. Ask questions here and you will receive advice from people who are honest and very knowlegeable in most cases. So... fire away with the questions and we will do our best to help you out. :D HTH

Chris......I agree that folks here are basically in it just to help and be helped....I've heard some strange advise from LFS( some appear to be totally stupid and others seem in it only for the money)try to find one you can trust and build a good business relationship ........what I try to do is research from a varity of sources........compare info and make sound decisions based on all I gather............as for a glass aquarium.......I have seen comments about a company in Canada that manufactures a top quality product......believe it is star fire glass(may be wrong).......excellant product from what I've heard but depending on where you are shipping would be more than the tank.....do a internet search....I'm sure there are sources out there....I'm currently considering buying a new systen thru a trusted LFS that carries oceanic.......hopefully I'll soon have a 220 reef ready with dual built in over flows

yep looks like everyone else nailed it and i don't have to say anything else but i've my friend had a mishap at a LFS and it wasn't pretty!! she was just starting a SWFT and the store said to put wrasses and a tang as her first fish!!! Maybe they wanted her to waste money! Anyway all her fish died and i told her about this site and now shes on her to check things out and shes a lot better and has a nice 36 gallon reef tank setup and going with nice clown fish!! :D :) Well you can see what LFS might happen to slip untrue info to you!~!
all i can say is trust us and BE CAREFUL AT YOUR LFS!! ;) ;)

WHIPPLE, YOUR CHECKIS IN THE MAIL
LOL
chris, i think i said this before,(lfs's have one goal, $$$) but if you want an opinion from the lfs, look at the shelves, then ask them something that does not pertain to what they stock, then you will here them basically read what the boxes say, they are programmed to the products they carry, and if you ask them something else, they will most likely direct you to something they have and you will hear almost the same thing you can read on the boxes(which are basically advertixements, and do you believe every add you see?
here, we have one objective, to help you avoid some of the mistakes we made, and to guide you to a healthy aquarium
NOW, don't get me wrong, there are some good lfs's out there, but few, and they will explain to you things, instead of trying to influence sales, what i mean, if you ask they will answer your question instead of saying "this'll........, instead of ......, for $$$$$"

Chris, in your area I think you should rely on the web for most info rather than the LFS, having worked at one of your LFS in the past and visting the rest on a regular basis I know hwat most of them are about :) Not that the LFS are that bad, but you have to remember their first reason for being in business is to make money and when it comes to telling you all you need is a deep sand bed for filtration or selling you a $200 wet dry, well theyre going to sell you a wet dry and tell you DSB is crap. Feel free to drop me an e-mail some time, always nice to mee t a new reefer in the area ;)
