What he said again, but "feed" might mean several things to some. Maybe they mean "feeding" the tank to cycle, or?

i don't see why u can not add trace elements to ur tank during cycling...the only reason I'd say don't bother is because a lot of life living on and in the LR may die when ur cycling...so then it maybe pointless...of course, there is plenty of life on the rock that will live...i'd add some trace elements in my opinion.

we got some food with ours, that we used to feed the life on the rock, like bacteria, nudis adn coraline and such, AND especially the pods, but actually feedig it food, i guess it would be about the same thing, only different
the food that they gave us was some type of flake, that none of our fish will eat at all
fedding the life on it is not a bad idea, and any extra food will help with your cycling, and will not hurt, but i would not add alot, and after you start to add fish, there is no longer aneed to do so any longer, becasue the fish waste will feed them adequately
