LFS vs Me

Has any one out there tried to give advise to a new hobiest and then that person goes to the LFS and belives them over you, especaly when you know that the LFS is lying? I have this problem with one of my friends and he will listen to me but belive the LFS. Any one know what i should tell him?

Print out a page or so of the horrible stories on this board to show him.

Give your advice and let it be...your friend will do one of two things..listen and follow you, or listen and follow the LFS...at which point it would be your friends ordeal...not yours.
Sometimes people need to fail to succeed and there isn't really anything anyone can do for them until they fail...
All you can do is keep giving the advice...

Let him make his own expensive mistakes, then once he realizes you were right all along and comes to you for proper advice, CHARGE HIM FOR IT! :D

Thanks everyone. I will try to point out that im not the one trying to get his money. If he don't listen it's his own falt.:D Thanks again.

The LFS person may be giving the best advise he or she knows.
In that case - that person isn't necessarily lying.
Or if it's clearly bad advise to pry a handful of cash from your friend for unneccesary equipment - bring this to your friends attention.
It really all depends on the advise given, who is giving it and for what reason.
There's more than one way to skin a cat, especially in this hobby.
Sometimes, as mentioned, it takes a couple of poor choices and having to deal with the results of those choices, before a person understands.
Ask your friend this ....
Is the LFS person asking your friend questions, or just giving advise.
If the LFS is not asking questions about your friends tank goals, then I would be concerned.

AMEN! And why not, for the sake of the fish, get him a book? "Salwater Fish for Dummies" is still a great book. It explains everything in everyday terms. amd he'll see after a few checks in that book that the LFS is either lying, or just doesn't know what they are talking about.

Well i know that the guy is not giving the best advise, because once i saw him tell a customer ask about a FW catfish he said it would only grow a few inches, then when another customer asked about the same fish he said a few feet. Sadly i could not find the other customer to tell them how big it grows.:(
