life on a snails back...

so i added some snails yesterday and this one has this feathery round thingy on its back. Can someone ID what it is? Is it a feather duster? It is kind of on the "tip" of the snail shell. apologies if the pic isnt the best....dont really have a great camera for aquarium pics.

Yup feather duster. Nice snail, something to point out to friends and amaze them!!

what are the chances of it living and growing to full size?

also...how how quickly do they grow?

That may be or at least close to it's full grown size. I have some in my thank that have been there almost 2 years and are about that size still. I can't be sure of that and would think that if it does grow there will be a better chance of it getting knocked off as the snail crawls around the rockwork. Maybe someone else will chime in here with more experience on this subject.

One of my snails had one and the tube never extended past the shell. All would come out was just the duster like in your pic. If the snail got into some tight spots, he would just withdraw until they moved along. As already said, he won't grow anymore than that.
