Life Rock Cured or not?

I live by the ocean and my LFS is bringing me life rock directly from the ocean tomorrow. I am setting up my 120 gal FOWLR and I whant to know if I can place the rock directly on my tank or cure it before. A frind told me that if I place the live rock in the tank, it will mess my water. What do I do?
The tank now is empty.

If you are just setting up this tank, then i would just put it in and let everything cycle together.

thanks, Should I remove something in particular from the rock?

If you are cycling a brand new tank just drop in there as is. Anything that dies off will only help to start the cycle.
