I think that would be a good start. When I went from T5's to MH's I broke apart the lighting in the middle of the day and turned the lights off for a few hours so that the corals had a little "rest" so to speak.
Just observe them, if it still seems to be too much, you can put a glass filter over the top to help or cut back the timing more. If it seems too little, then you'll have to add more time.
