Light Bulb Replacement

I have a 48" light fixture for my 75 gal tank. I have been reading that a better light promotes better fish colors and keeps them healthier, and I also would like to add a few anemones to the tank. Can anyone tell me what type of bulb I should use or do I have to upgrade the entire fixture?
Thanks

What kind of 48" fixture do you have?? If it's the one that came with your tank when you bought it, it's probably a NO (no output) fixture. Different lights will not "change" the color of your fish. They can however make the fish "appear" brighter. Actinic blue tends to bring out the colors of your fish best, but it is a rather dim light that makes it difficult to see anything else. So you want "daylight" for the LIGHT. So if you have a N.O. hood, you can purchase a 50/50 lamp. 50% actinic, 50% daylight.
As for an anemone, you would need a MUCH stronger source of light...and no, you cannot put VHO (very high output) bulbs in your ballast unless it was made for them.
