so i wanted A new bulb for my hood, 50/50 anticata ( however its spelled). anyways, the fiixture says 24" so i got a 24 " bulb, i get home and sure enough i flip the hood over and the bulb is half the size of the hood, not even enough to cover the length of the tank!!
wen to the store to find a hood that cover the entire 24" of hte tank, all hte hoods said 24" but when i flip them there only 12" light bulbs. who make a 24" hood that actually fits a 24" bulb???
am i supposed to get a different kind of hood?

Sufficient for a 10gallon tank only. You never said what size tank you are running these over....You'll really have to look at the light fixture numbers when you are looking for a fixture that runs your 24" lamps, usually the fixture will tell you what lamp size fits in the hood itself, or which one to buy for it.

welp, I can say that if I post wrong the other guys will go nuts, so. In reason 240watts is what you need, but, you can get away with around 150 watts, being as your tank is not all that deep. So you should be ok with those numbers. You could try the 2 65 watts, but remember that actinics may be 65 watts, but they don't put off 65 watts worth of visible light, they are for looks to the human eye. But, maybe, just maybe you could use them. Its a chance, if you wish to find out, you just may get away with it. Your tank is not deep enough to warrant Metal Halides, so don't let anyone con you into them. You could use a number of different combinations of PC or VHO or T-5. Its really your choice now, to which fixture or lamp your going to use. Good Luck.
