light help!

any one heard of a 600 watt hps light fixture? any good? i think it is a sun systems.

HPS have the wrong color spectrum we all need 5500k for reef tanks at least.
most HPS bulbs are only 2800 to 4000k at the most. they have a lot of red and yellow in their spectrum.

HPS will NOT work.
Bulbs get VERY hot so the housings are usually built stout. The bulbs are huge too.
This is the draw for SW hobbiests when they first see HPS fixtures.
Wrong spectrum
Fixtures wont hold up to salt exposure
Ballast will not work for MH
All around wrong. SOOOOO close that everyone thinks it. Some local pothead has thier left over grow rig and you just imaging putting it on your tank with some "tuning"
Alas, no it wont work for all the reasons listed above. Not energy efficient or cost effective to convert the fixture for SW use.
