WELL...as I was sitting here....the blue leds went out on my 54G....HMMMM......SO I checked a couple of wires.....lifted the lid to the lights....and somehow managed to make the fans go off

Danny is at work and working till after 8 tonight.....sooooooooooooo....All I can do for now is I placed a small fan over one of the fans that isn't working
Will have to wait for him to troubleshoot......and I BET it won't be until tomorrow
SIGH.....I hate this kind of stuff :(

Well, darn. And I was just thinking to myself the other day that I hadn't seen, Lois around talking about equipment failures lately. What's up with that? Now I know, it was just a matter of time. lol
Sounds like a faulty connection with the fans. You see any corroded wires or contacts anywhere, burned out led perhaps?

Danny just got home and he is looking at it....n othing obvious yet with the fans......NO CLUE about the lights.....except MAYBE the driver went out

OK....fans are fixed.....I must have pulled a wire out :(
We'll mess with the lights tomorrow......he hasn't even had dinner yet :(
BUT we do have a spare driver......SO we can test wires and the driver

That was my concern about LED lighting. They don't sell replacement bulbs, it's like they intend to just toss them away after they burn out. I don't think you should have that problem, didn't you do a DIY light system?

Yeah pretty much all of them can be fixed or replaced. And some manufacturers have gone out of their way to design fixtures that are fairly easy to do so, but not very many of them have. My pet peeve is with the units (particularly the cheaper ones) that the manufacturers arent disclosing the pertinant data of what they're actually using. So without some decent electrical trouble shooting skills and research it's difficult for the average hobbyist to know how to fix them or know what the proper components they would need to replace even if they did.

Just let me know if Danny has any questions. A simple voltage test across the drivers output wires while its powere up but disconnected from the leds will tell hime if the driver is good or bad. He should see 48volts if its good. Remeber he needs to set the meter for DC volts and not AC. Good luck.

OH YEAH....could a driver going bad cause bulbs to go out???
It's possible but it could also be the other way around too. Just depends on what failed and how it failed. But I knew your man would figure it out for ya. Better buy him a tall glass of beer at Chili's later.
