Light question

Hello everyone!
My name is Will. I have set up a 55 gal tank as my first salt tank. I have been into freshwater tanks for quite a few years now. Anyhow, currently my tank has a single T8 marine-glo 40w actinic bulb inside a normal florescent fixture. I know I need to upgrade the lighting before I add any animals (tank only has some liverock and sand in it). I do not plan on doing any corals at the moment.
I am looking for some DIY ideas for a decent light setup. I will be building a hood as well. I really only can spend around 100.00 at the moment not. I just need to get something that will hold me over for a few months. Any chance I can use some commercial t8 fixtures? I saw some dual 34 watt units at home depot they where chrome diamond plate, would 2 of these work? Any suggestions?
I understand that lighting is a very important aspect of this hobby, and I truly hate to be frugal but I have no choice. I do however plan to upgrade to a MH setup around Christmas time. I would greatly appreciate any input.
Thank You!
Will

Killean Tx, the armpit of America. Now Austin thats anothe story. Anyway!
If you are not planning on coral the lighting doesnt matter. The fish dont care so the lighting is for your pleasure. Look on cL for something cheap.

Yeah that light should be fine for just fish. If you want to buy something with a little more light. Just pm me for a great place to buy a great like for 50 bucks.

What about a CUC would the lights be sufficient for them as well? Im thinking a couple shrimp, snails, couple varities of crabs (sandsifter, emrald). Thank you ver much for the responses.
