light regimen question?

10-14 hours is the norm. Some prefer to keep the main lights on for 8-10 hours with the actinics coming on an hour or two before and staying on an hour or two after the lights go out to simulate a dusk/dawn effect. HTH

The goal is to sort of simulate the dawn/dusk effect in nature...not that we mortals can do that...but we try!
My lights run 12 per day...actinics first at 9:00 am with 10k's coming on at 9:30 am....10k's off at 8:30 pm and actinics off at 9:00 pm...thats my attempt to simulate a typical day of a natural reef. All I need is a mini sun...and a "mother nature simulator" to create random weather fluctuations...:D

I do 12 on, 12 off. Like NM says. Oh yeah, I only have PC's too. No halides, yet. And my actinic PCs come on an hour before and after the 10Ks. So 10 hours of 10ks, and 2 hours of actinics on either end of that.

Look things up before you post a "burn" like that.
He's correct...it is "regimen"
Regimen (noun) - A systematic procedure for a process.
Regiment (noun) - A military unit, or a large group of people.
And why is it a burn if he likes men? I'd rather be gay than illiterate.
OOOOOOOOH...Burn!

Flucrum, you are absolutly right. That is my mistake. But, besides your uncanny ability as a grammar advocate, your response is unfortunately very annoying and needless to me. I believe fishkiller would have responded when he wakes up. He's smart enough to use the right word. Which means he's smart enough, and capable of correcting me in his own right. And he, as most "long termers" on this board know, is welcome to respond to me with smart aleck, rude comments because I have known him for more than a decade. You, Encyclopedia Brown, have hardly conversed enough with me to warrant "attempted witty" responses. Perhaps you don't have much else to do during the work week than correct people's posts that are intended as jokes between friends. But, it was wasted time on your part. I do appreciate your try at exerting effort though.
And I'm sorry if I offended your alternative lifestyle. Not my piece of pie, or hot dog if you will. You can have all the men you want. Village People, and Michael Jackson, and Macauly Culkin included. I'll stick with the books though so I can further my currently poor knowledge of the English language. Then I'll use it to have good conversations with the opposite ---.

Good point Rye. I've lost interest in continuing, even if he wants to. I think I'll hush up now. I usually try my best to respect board members. My bad. Not cool.

Sorry if I pissed you off Hair Trigger. I was just joining in on the burning session. I figured it was open season. I didn't realize you guys knew eachother that well. My bad.
The only way to become a "longtermer" is to post stuff, and get to know you guys.

No worries, I may have misinterpreted the post as malicious instead of joking. That's one drawback to these boards which I really don't like: Not being able to tell people's tone of voice.
The faces things help a little though. See:

I'll tell you the story sometime about how my company thought I called them all "communists" in an e-mail. Sarcasm and humor are tough to convey across the internet!
I'll try to use smiley faces more often. :) (see)

Feel free to tell it anytime. Like you said, that's the only way to really get to know people on this board. While I've known fishiekicker for a while, I consider a lot of the people on this board friends although I've never met em. Like a home away from home.... :D

Very long story short:
We had a marketing plan that was not performing well at all. One of the guys in management sent an e-mail stating that we were sticking with the plan because "it works in theory."
My e-mail response was "Communism works in theory...look what happened to communism"
Management got so offended that I "called them communists" that I had to write an apology e-mail and copy the entire company.
That company has since gone out of business. :D

Yeah, I know what you mean. Forget them realizing your intent. They think you're attacking them personally, not using "communism" as an example. See, that's the problem with a lot of managers. They mind-screw themselves into a frenzy which in turn clouds their problem identifying and solving skills. I think it's the same no matter where you work. Which is probably why your old company, and so many others have failed. Although I am part of it, I do my best not to buy into the corporate life that managers pitch. I think the best managers are the ones who take the abstract track instead of the corporate handbook method. Ugh. Just reinforces to a "T" everything previously mentioned about tone of voice, and a person's intent being mis-interpreted. Or regimented. :D
