Lighting for 55 gal

Hello, I am setting up a 55 gal reef tank. (Actually I believe it is 52 gal) I need to purchase some good lighting, but am not sure what to go for. I am debating between metal halides and T5.
Does anyone know any good fixtures to get for around 300 bucks?
I want it to be good enough for just about anything. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Odyssea sells a 36" 492 watt MH fixture for about $250 plus shipping. If you do a search you'll be able to find them.

Would a 36" light fixture be enough for a 55 gal tank? I beleive the tank is longer than that. I will measure when I get home.
