lighting for a new 50 g

i have a 50 gallon tank which measures approx 36x16x20 with a flip top wooden hood. i plan to place clams, soft corals and some hard corals. what type of lighting should i put in there and which name brands are good?

First.....Welcome to our forums...hope you enjoy your visit.
The lighting options are virtually unlimited...depending on space available in your canopy. I'd suggest you consider either VHO's or a combination of VHO's and MH's...if your canopy is tall enough. MH's normally need to be a minimum of 8" off the water surface.
Best bet is to research the different lighting sources carefully then decide what will work best for your particualr application.:thinking:
