lighting for clams

do clams absolutely require metal halide lighting or is power compact (with enough wattage) sufficient? For example, could a 125 gal tank with 4x90 watt power compact lighting house clams?

I'll admit I'm relatively inexperienced with clams, but that doesn't seem like all that much light to me.

Your lighting is a bit weak for any kinds of clams. But if you really really really, and I mean really, wanna keep a clam, go with a squamosa and try and put it right on top. IMO, you are gonna keep it alive if you feed it regularly with DT's and other supplement, but the color will still not be as great as under MH.

I've got two nice electric blue crocea clams under 550 watts 90 gallon and they do great. They look better in my tank than they did under mh at the lfs. But that is less light than I have so you might be risking it.....I thought I was, but took a chance.
