Lighting for curing live rock

I have had my 125 going for about a year now and I am wanting to add more live rock to the tank. I currently have about 50 lbs curing in a trash can and was wondering how long I can leave my lights on for? Will leaving them on a longer time help my rock cure quicker? My ammonia levels are off the charts and have been for about 2 weeks. Also, I got this rock from the guy I just purchased my 240 from and it had a lot of coraline on it but it had been out of water a few days and I don't think he was keeping his tank up. There was still alot of purple color still on the rock. I know there was a ton of die off but will it eventually come back to life or would i need to seed it with coraline from another rock? Thanks!

First off no light needed to cure the rock. Secondly the coralline will come back once added to the tank with a regular lighting schedule. Just make sure to keep the rock submerged, at reef temp, a powerhead circulating the water and periodic water changes.

As already mentioned, no lighting is needed for the curing process...If the ammonia levels are off the charts you might want to do more frequent water changes in order to avoid mass die off of beneficial bacteria. You might already know that, but I thought I'd mention it just in case :)

if there is a lot of life on the rock or any corals that might still be on the rock it will need light so take a look at the rock and see whats on it before decideing weither or not to run your lights.
