Lighting heat info

A little info for everyone as I understood thermodynamics, a 175 watt MH bulb puts out the same heat as 175 watts of VHO or PC. It feels hotter because the heat is distributed along a small area.

Isn't ballast type a factor? An electronic ballast will fire the bulb through a wider frequency range thus reducing the temperature required to cause an arc in the lamp. Less energy is converted to heat energy making the ballast more efficient. (as compared to a magnetic ballast)

A VHO is still more energy efficient than MH,right?Trying to justify running 440 watts of VHO to my girlfriend.

If the light puts out 175 watts then it will generate 175 watts of heat, this has nothing to do with ballast or efficiency. Ballast efficiency relates only to how much electricty is used to generate the rated wattage.

ok im confused, you say if a bulb uses a 175 watts then it puts off 175 watts of heat, right. Well maybe this has to do with something else, but right now Im running 2 110watt VHOs on a tar, or magnetic, ballast and if I touch my bulbs they are very hot, so hot that if I bump into them I flinch, but my friend has 3 VHO 110 on an ice cap, electronic, and they dont even feel warm. Both systems are using 110 watts per bulb, but my set gets really hot and his are very cool. What gives?

This in info I've read on more than I ocassion, Im not and electrical engineer. I will research this topic to the best of my ability though.
Andron are the bulbs the same manufacturer?

Burnspy, yeah bpth sets pf bulbs are URI. See this is confusing to me because I can realte to what your saying, but I just cant understand how both bulbs could be putting off the same amount of heat, yet one feels a lot cooler than the other. Ice-cap, if I can sya that here, says the their electronic ballasts put off something like 30% more like than tar ballasts, and yet they still run cooler. Maybe one ballasts works harder than the other, if you know what I mean. I have no idea, eletricicty and I have never gotten along, and salt water is not a very good conductor so I just leave it alone.

Burn, in an unrelated response, I saw your reply that you visited a web sight on flat worms. If you could send me that web site address I would appreciate it.
