i recently got a hex tank of 35g. And right now i want to start off with FOWLR tank but maybe in the far future go with a reef tank. my question is how can i the best lighting with that type of tank. what brands? what type of light? i wanted to try and keep the hood the tank came with but I've been doing some reading and it doesn't seem that's possible or if it was i couldn't find a high enough wattage to what i wanted. any advice is greatly appreciated. thank you

The only practical way to light tanks light that is either metal halide pendants or LED spot lights, neither of which are going to work in the plastic hood that came with the tank.
As far as a halide pendant, whatever fits will probably be good, a single 250w bulb would be plenty. For the LEDs, look into a few of the rapidLED or nanocustoms PAR38 lamps.
