Would I be able to have a clam in a 12 gallon nano with 110 watts (1-10k white, and 1-10k actinic, my previous post shows the retro in detail)
Thanks,
Corbett

Why wouldn't that be enough? I am wondering cause that is over 9 watts/gallon, right? Please help me understand. I also don't know a whole lot about clams (which is why I don't have one! :D )

Did you replace the 24 watt and if you did what did you put in it and how did you put it in. I was thinking about getting a Nanocube but I wanted to know if I could put a 96 watt or something in it so if you could email me and tell me. kaddy_522@yahoo.com Please thank you

Watts per gallon rule isn't a great rule to go by. An example is, 13 watts on a .75 gallon would equal 1300 watts on a 75 gallon by going with the WPG rule. BUT some things can survive on the 1300 watts, but not the 13 watts. It's all about light intensity.

basically PC lighting is intense but not nearly intesne enough to make the light loving clams thrive or survive.
Clams are also filter feeders - so you could heavily target feed a clam with DT's phytoplankton and have it survive but it would not thrive.
The key would be try to keep some of the easier SPS corals and see how they turn out ...
How did you pack 110 watts over a 12 - that is freaking incredible.
I believe Hippoppus clams are not as hardy. DO a search though to be sure!
HEY Caryn_IA do you know about GIRS?? We just relocated to Des Moines area and I am going to be joining the local Greater Iowa Reef Society which meets monthly - once in DM and then the next month in Iowa City.

Over-No I'd don't know about GIRS. I figured there had to be one, but, I also don't know a whole lot of SW people in the area. I would like to know more thou, do you have a link? Or you can e-mail it to me. Also if you know of any LFS in Iowa, besides the two in DM.... Thanks for the info!

Shoot me an e-mail - I know of four places in DM to buy SW stuff - can't post the link - it is to a bigger board.
