lighting question...

i can't even tell you what kind of lighting I have for my tank except that it is a 20W florescent, Aqua Glow light. I know absolutely nothing about actinics, light spectrums, etc., just the stuff i have read on these boards. i am currently doing a fowlr set up. are these other lighting options just for show or do they really impact the health and happiness of the fish. i do know that reef systems require different light but am unsure of what that lighting is. do you guys recommend going out and buying a different light? What is actinics, a brand name? it would be greatly appreciated if some of you guys can shed some "LIGHT" (ha ha) on this topic for me. Thanks!!!

fish really need very little light at all. the actinic lights though bring out there colors nicely when supplemented with another nice 10k bulb.if your going to run a FO then i dont think lighting is a major concern although low light conditions promote algae growth. you may want to try and run maybe a couple of nice 10k daylights and one actinic. just a thought. BTW, what size tank ?

I run a 10k and a marine glo (love the blue)
and the fish have great color.. both bulbs are just a normal flourescent bulb.. It's not the best light.. but it gives me lots of coralline growth and looks great a night.. I'd keep you current setup and add a 10k if you can..
