What type of basic lighting can I put in my 55 gallon FOWLR tank

Standard-output fluorescents would be fine for a FOWRL. You could go with two bulbs (one 50/50 and an actinic) to simulate dawn-to-dusk.

Just about anything will work fine for FOWLR.
You may consider investing in a T5 system if there is ANY chance you'll want to change to reef down the road... might as well spend a little more now than spend it all over again when you change one day.
