What size is the tank?
What is in the tank?
What do you plan on keeping?
The blue (actinic) bulbs help to complete the spectrum of lighting, also to make the tank look less yellow.

I use CSL Power compacts on mine. You can get them in white, blue, or whit and blue. I run 190 watts on my tank right now with 3 CSLs and a normal. When I replace my bulds, I am goin gup to 210 watts

Sounds like you are going with a FO tank. If so, i'd go with 2X55w 10k pc lights. They are bright and i'm pretty sure they are the color you are looking for. HTH

i know this is probably a stupid question but is there any brighter lighting i can get that will fit in the strip lights i have on my 55 right now?(2 15w.)i'm new to this, don't know much about lighting other than i want it brighter with as little change to the hood as possible. does this make sense to anyone?

i would recommend getting a coralife super day light 10000k. i replaced the 2 lights that came with the original light hood with 1 of them
( the other with a 50/50 ) and they are really bright. i got it at a lfs. good luck

im not positive but when i bought mine there were larger and smaller sizes. i wish i could point you to a website to help you but i do not know of any. like i said i got mine at my lfs.
the 50/50 has blue light in it, if its a fo tank im not sure you would need it. maybe coralife has a website. there are other brands also.
hopes this helps.
good luck sue
