I need to upgrade my sorry old lighting, or I don't think my live rock will propegate to my lace rock. Which of PC or VHO is the more powerful lighting? Which costs less? And which puts off less heat?

PC or VHO is just a personal opinion.
Many ppl like PC other like VHO.
I prefered VHO over PC any time (just me)
The cost for the bulbs are not much different few bucks. I do not worry about few $ for 10 months bulbs replace.
It's all depending on what do you want to keep.
For a 55 G tank, I would go with 2x110 VHO. (Softies and some LPS)

There are many manufactures making e-Ballast.IceCap
Coralife
etc.
Generally, the PC ballast is cheaper then the VHO ballast. The PC bulbs is a little more expensive then the VHO bulbs.
You will get more light from 2x110 VHO than the 2x55 PC. I have never compare 4x55 PC with 2x110 VHO. If we look at the wattage they are the same, but ppl claimed there is more light from the PC. Which I do not believed.

You post a nice price like 124 and you don't tell me the source???? Please let me know where I can get those ballasts, bulbs, and reflectors for 124.
