Anyone got any lighting upgrade suggestions for a 25g Eclipse model 2? Right now i have 15lbs of live rock, 20lbs of live sand, Cleanup crew, 2 yellow tail damsels.. and i wanted to add a couple Percula clowns, and an anemone, and possibly some mushrooms.. Any suggestions?

Two weeks ago i ordered the reto-fit for the eclipse two, it came with a power compact kit, 36watt 50/50 bulb, it took 10 minutes to install and looks great, it cost 44 bucks, go for it. ;)

Personally I do not like the eclipse.
They do not allow room for good lighting. That retro fit kit fishgills is taking about is only 36 watts that isn't even 1.5 watts per gallon, no where near enough for a reef let alone an anemone.
I read that the bio wheel thing is also bad for a reef, something to do with the oxygen, I don't remember I will find the article.
Also using carbon 24/7 in the filter pad takes out trace elements. and it is hard to get a skimmer on.
IMO get rid of the eclipse hood thing get yourself a new filter and lights with many watts.

My brother is a marine biologist... he keeps 2 mandarins in his 25 gallon Eclipse... we just had a big discussion on whether it was a good idea to use an Eclipse in marine fishkeeping... this is what he says WRT the tank:
Can you keep a marine tank in an eclipse? Yes.
Is it recommended by most people? No.
But you get some people who say,
"you need x, y, and especially z, if you're ever going to keep a marine
tank at home."
I think it's a lot of bologna as long as you maintain your water quality with water changes and most importantly....don't overfeed!
My Eclipse has carbon mechanical filtration, and a biowheel, and other than that only about 10-15 pounds of live rock, and I have never had any nitrites or ammonia.
The only thing I wouldn't consider keeping in the Eclipse are corals
which may not get the appropriate light.
So to answer your question, can you do it in an eclipse? Of course you can, I've got the proof at home.
I guess it also depends on what you want to keep. Some fish of course are going to be easier to keep in an Eclipse than others, but I think they work pretty well overall if you are choosing a small system.
Hope that helps...

I have the eclipse 3 hood.
I added 2 more lights for a total of 4 bulbs over the tank.
I have been keeping low light corals for about 4 months and all are growing and looking good.
I also added a skimmer but did have to cut a little off the hood to make it fit.
